When a baby is born without a brain it is called anencephaly. When this happens a baby will most likely survive for a few days. It is a very, very rare condition. Do I think it is okay to have an abortion when you find out your baby will be born without a brain? No, I don't. It is so, so, so sad and I understand that the parents will have to live with the fact that their baby has no chance of living a normal, long life. I believe it is the parent's duty to have the baby and let him or her live its life for however long that may be. God gave that baby life, it is not our job to decide that life should be taken away. It is so, so sad as I said, but the baby has the right to live and I have a feeling that the parents would feel even more grief and sorrow if they aborted the baby.

Look at this...comment what you think
The problem with what you just said about changing the scenario, is that it is like ignoring the topic. Pro Life feels very stongly agianst all abortion, no matter what the circumstance. ProChoice gives the opportunity to make up your mind about whether to get one or not to. People often think that Pro Choice is Pro Abortion, while it is really just the chance to make a decision, whether that is abortion or not. It is cruel and unfair to tell a person that they are not allowed to get an abortion. It is a persons right to be able to decide for themselves. The bottom line with the scenario about the girl is that it happened. Whether it was one in a million is irrevalent. It is something that can't be ignored and her story needs to be heard. It happens more than we know. And whether women are WISE enough! Everything changes if a woman gets pregnant. It is not something to take lightly and eventually, women figure that out. All women? No. Most women? Yes. It is something that should be considered, not decided on a whim, and I believe women most definatly have the wisdom to decide about it.

You should NOT have the choice to KILL someone legally. You cannot put someone else's life in YOUR OWN HANDS without their consent. IT SHOULD NOT BE YOUR CHOICE TO DECIDE WHETHER HE OR SHE LIVES OR DIES! What if I came up to you and told you that I was legally allowed to decide whether you lived or died? would that make sense?! Also, what did the baby do to deserve the death sentence?!!If abortion is legal, why don't they legalize the killing of their children by their parents? The parents are still in charge of them after the mother gives birth, and they still have the power to kill them, but IS THAT LEGAL? NO! AND FOR GOOD REASON!

Paul, nice comment. I totally agree.A couple things etucci: "It is a persons right to be able to decide for themselves" (on abortion)Alright, what about the baby? What's their say? IT IS THEIR RIGHT TO LIVE!! "It happens more than we know" (concerning rare circumstances such as the one concerning the nine year old girl in Brazil)Really? Ok, give me proof. How do you know this happens more than we know??Concerning whether women are wise enough: Just look at the website titled regrets. I believe it speaks for itself. Here is a WHOLE LIST of women who know they made the wrong decision. They admit right there they were not wise! Also: people who are pro choice are pro abortion because they favor abortion over life in certain circumstances. Also: one question: When do you believe life begins?

Murder Is Murder
I totally understand your point of view about abortion and I get where your going with it, but I disagree. Like you have probably heard, there was a 9 year old girl in Brazil who was raped and became pregnant with twins and chose to have an abortion. Then, her mother and the doctor was excommunicated from the church. Do you think that they should have been? Was abortion really a sin in this situation, even though the child herself might have died? If the girl died, so would the babies.

i agree with etucci. although many people think abortion is wrong, many people have no choice. the 9 year old will have a very hard life just because of the fact that she was raped and became pregnant. people should have a choice because sometimes they think there is only one way out.

I would like to comment on your statement: "People should have a choice because somethimes they THINK there is only one way out." Ok, so say there is a man who has been fighting horribly with his wife. I mean his wife and him are constantly arguing. The man's life is miserable and he does not know what to do. So, one day he buys a gun and shoots his wife. You are probably reading this right now and thinking: This is awful! How could he do that?! Murder his wife?! You know this is man is a criminal. His wife had the right to live and now he has gone and done the unthinkable: murder. But, this man THOUGHT that murdering his wife was his only way out. Now, you are probably thinking what a stupid comparison, this example really is just silly. Murdering a grown woman and murdering a baby inside his or her mother's womb is completely different, right? Wrong! Murder is murder! Sure the man could have gotten a divorce from his wife or moved out of the house to escape his miserable wife. I would also like to point out that a woman could have a baby and adopt it (to escape raising a baby she is not prepared to raise, the financial difficulties, etc) Murder is inexcusable, horrible, and just plain wrong in any form.

I read and understood your point of view on this story and agree that this girl is way to young to even consider having a baby. However, in this case, abortion was really her only choice, except for dying, along with the babies. The girl would have indeed gone through a tramatic experiance, but if abortion keeps the girl herself from dying, because of events she could not control, then I agree with the fact that she had one done

Yes, that is why I said I believe this may be the exception in abortion. It looked as if there was no way the girl would deliver safely and if she died it is quite possible that the babies would have died, as you said. I do understand the church's stance though. There must be rules, and those rules must be upheld. Do I think that the ruling was a little harsh? Yes, but I think the church did what they believed was right. They upheld their rules. Commenting on the traumatic experience of an abortion...I was doing some research and it is extremely common for women to have many problems after abortion (post traumatic stress, second thoughts about aborting, sleep deprivation, etc) I was also talking to a reliable adult source who said many times women commit suicide because of having an abortion.

I am a strong Catholic. My mother grew up Catholic and my father converted to Catholicism around four years ago. My brothers, sister, and I are all being raised Catholic. We are taught that abortion is a sin. That abortion is murder. When I was younger, I really did not understand the subject just agreed because it was what my mother and father believed in. However, now that I am older I do understand what the subject is about and I have developed my own opinions. I am still pro life and although some may say I am pro life just because that is what my parents believe in, I am an independent thinker and have decided to be pro life through my own thoughts and opinions. I am very happy that my parents are both pro life because I am sure that is why I wanted to learn more about the subject. I want people to be aware of how horrible abortion really is. I know that not everyone believes that life begins at conception. I am here to tell you that I believe you are very wrong.
i completely agree with that story about the husband and wife. however, many women cannot keep their child for a number of reasons: they cannot afford to take care of it and the baby may end up dying anyway, they decide they do not want the baby (in this case, i think adoption would be best), or they are so upset that they want the baby completely gone and decide to have an abortion. the nine year old girl probably had a very small chance of survival if she delivered the babies, but she is still traumatized because she was raped AND had an abortion. i definately believe that women should make their own choice on whether to get an abortion or not.
I am well aware that many women cannot keep their child for a number of reasons: that is what ADOPTION is for. That is not what abortion is for. Ok, also I understand why the nine year old girl had an abortion. I understand that she had a very small chance of survival and abortion truly was her only way out. So, please stop using the nine year old girl as an example. I have commented on what I believe concerning the case and the chance of something like this happen is really one in a million! Choose a different scenario! Women should not make their own choice on whether to have an abortion or not: many women aren't wise enough to see all sides of things. They believe an abortion is the only way out; they don't figure out until later that abortion was the wrong choice.
