http://www.newstatesman.com/200504040014. This is an article written by a woman who had an abortion and does not regret it. Do you think she made a stupid and selfish decision or do you think she was justified in having chose abortion? I am pretty sure that you all can guess what I think about this story, but if you have any questions on where I stand on this matter (as in why I think it is wrong or anything else) feel free to ask in your comment. Also, please choose your words carefully and do not yell (all caps) in your comments. If bad language is used or the comment is mean and hurtful in some way it will not be published. Thank you.

Although I am prochoice, I feel that this was not morally right to do. If you have the support that is needed and enough money to support the baby, than I feel that is just flat out murder. I feel that the woman should have a choice for abortion, but if you can provide for it, I think that is just plain cruel.
ReplyDeleteI read the article, and while I did not particularly agree with her situation, she had every right to have an abortion. To me, the girl writing it sounded like a woman who made a stupiid decision and became pregnant as a result. Do I think she should have had an abortion? No, but the fact is she did and had every right to do it if she felt it was necessary, (although I personally didn't think it was). I think it was good that you got an article that showed that some people didn't regret their decision. She was a symbol that not everyone who has an abortion thinks their life is ruined. What is your opinion?
ReplyDeleteA.Rivers- I agree with you in that this decision was not morally right. Also, I just wanted to put this out there: Abortion is murder no matter what the circumstances. It is not only murder when the situation is like the one in the article but always.
ReplyDeleteI believe that in THIS situation the woman should have considered other options such as adoption. Many people do not understand that there are other ways to handle certain situations. Sometimes they are not aware of the different paths they can take. I am not condoning nor agreeing with this woman's actions because i was not in her shoes and we can NeveR( i didn't use all caps) judge someone else based on our own beliefs before we hear the whole story. We can not understand people until we have walked in their shoes. We can not even begin to comprehend what life is like for some people because we are very fortunate. It is not right for us to judge others who we can not possibly begin to relate to.
ReplyDeleteEtucci, I don't believe that this woman had the right to have the abortion because since she had the right to an abortion she then murdered an innocent baby who could have been supported or given away through adoption. Due to this woman's selfish decision this baby will never get a chance to live because no one stood up to stop her. The people that have abortions and then do not regret them usually act like they are no big deal. That is the way this woman acted. It is a big deal. She murdered a child. There are even some women out there who use abortion as a sort of birth control, getting one whenever they become pregnant, acting as if they are just getting rid of a mass of tissue inside of their womb. However, this mass of tissue is a baby who will one day become a man or woman. If we are not allowed to kill men and women when they are at an adult stage why are we allowed to kill them when they are still small and vulnerable (When they need the most protecting)?
ReplyDeleteMolly- yes, many people do not understand that there are other ways to handle certain situations. So, we should just pretend that killing the child within them is a viable option? When they do not understand that there are other ways they will choose what seems like the easiest way out-abortion. However, it is up to us people who do know there are other options to stop abortions from happening. Yes, there are some situations where abortion may be the right choice because (like the 9-year old girl)for example the mother will die while giving birth, but Majority of abortions happen in situations like the woman's in the article. So, no I don't understand this woman entirely, I have never met her and probably never will, yet I can judge her DecisioN in choosing to have an abortion because I do know the situation and I believe what she did was very wrong. Even if you say you do not know where life begins (as Catholics we believe it begins at conception) shouldn't you protect it at every stage since you aren't sure? I believe this woman should have not had an abortion and personally think it is wrong that she does not regret and repent for her decision.
ReplyDeleteI understand that this woman shouldn't have had an abortion, but the fact is she did, and even though she was in a good situation to support the baby, she had the right to have one. It is her body and someone telling her that she can't control something that is happening to her body is unthinkable to me. What if a person didn't have a choice in becoming pregnant and became pregnant agaisnt her will? If this happened to you, what would you do? I know that I personally would have to think about it for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteKatie, from your reply to molly's answer. You can not judge a person's decision. You have to hear her side before actully judging. Our world has made many wars because someone judge another's decision. The world needs to be open minded to all situations, not the ones that they choose. I do not think that abortion is right, but you can't go around caling people murders because they choose a different way then your way.
ReplyDeleteEtucci- but what about the baby? What is her/his say in the matter? If I became pregnant against my will I would have the baby and either adopt it or raise it with the help from my family. I know you will say that I do not know what I am talking about because when I actually would get pregnant my thinking process might change. However, I do believe with the support from my family and God I would be able to have the baby and make sure it gets to live the life it deserves. You cannot just strip a person of their right to live.
ReplyDeleteYes, I can judge this woman's decision. I have just read her side of the story in the article I posted, and what she did was wrong. She murdered a baby. I can call her a murderer because she did murder someone. You say I cannot judge because I do not know what was going through that woman's mind. So we aren't allowed to judge child molesters because technically we don't know what is going through their mind? We cannot judge a man who kills his wife because technically we are not in his shoes and don't know what he was thinking? Obviously we do judge people by their decisions- molesters, rapists, terrorists, and MurdererS. We must uphold laws and the ten commandments the bible gives us: Thou shalt not kill, being one of them. Just because we do not know what was going through that woman's head and were not in her shoes does not justify what she did. Just because a person is faced with a difficult situation in their life does not give them the right to take another life, even if that life is dwelling inside of them.
ReplyDeleteJust to clear something up- I do not reccomend we send the women who have had abortions to prison or execute them or punish them, etc. I believe it is our job to prevent future abortions from happening and try to change the law so that abortion is illegal (if the mother's life is at risk it is a different scenario. I believe everything should be done to save the mother and the baby but with our technology today it is sometimes not possible. These are special situations that do not apply to majority of abortions.)
ReplyDeleteYeah this even though I'm pro-choice i mean this just doesn't justify having an abortion. This is someone who is too lazy to raze a baby and if your going to be this way think twice before you think its time.
ReplyDeleteDanielS- yes, so because this woman was too lazy she had an abortion and now the baby is dead. She can't reverse what she did. She can't think twice now because bring back this child is impossible. Do you see where I am coming from? Because of people who carelessly have abortions when they really could bring the child into this world babies are dying. This is why this woman should not have had the right to an abortion; because she committed murder , didn't think twice about it, and now doesn't regret or feel bad about the murder.
